Studio Shots, Part Trois

I'm on a roll now. Third blog posting in as many weeks. I hope the momentum continues. I spent part of the evening moving heddles around on my floor loom in preparation for threading that towel warp that's been waiting so very patiently for so very long. Then it was time to blog.

I'm still geeking out over the 28mm f2.8 lens that I've been practicing with. I may have mentioned this before, but bear with me. This is a manual focus lens on my camera. No point and shoot, no autofocus. I have a digital SLR, but the Nikon D60 doesn't have software built in to autofocus anything other than AF-S lenses. The little baby I have affixed to the camera right now is a Nikkor AF lens, so manual focus all the way. Here I have zeroed in on the pin cushion. Notice how the items all around are in soft focus, but the pin cushion? You can get right down to the pin heads, the dust, the threads, and the fabric structure used to make it. Geeking out.

Here's that ubiquitous Malabrigo yarn again. Actually two different skeins of Malabrigo: the front one is their wonderful worsted, and the one in back is their fabulous sock yarn. Colorways: Dusty and Stonechat.

A bit further on is a grouping of 5/2 cotton. These are colors I have used in various combinations over the past few months in inkle belts. I started weaving by learning to make inkle belts and I'm still at it. I love the color combinations that I come up with, and it never gets old.

Now, this shot is very cool. I have a prism/crystal toy hanging in the window of this room (it's in back of us as we face the table and the wall). It has a solar motor that gets charged by the sun (south facing room) and turns the crystal around and around, casting little rainbow patterns all around. The cats like this. Well, the crystal was doing its thing when I was taking some pictures, so I made a point of focusing on the yarn and waiting until a rainbow flitted by. They go pretty fast, so I had to be quick with the shutter.

And I caught one - yay!

Now, lest anyone become claustrophobic, here is a long shot of the whole table, just to put things in perspective:

Happy October!
